What is iVAS?
The intravascular ventricular assist system (iVAS) is a novel investigational device for the treatment of advanced heart failure. It is a minimally invasive, non-obligatory device designed to allow patients to be discharged out of the hospital.
How does iVAS work?
The iVAS operates on the same principles of counterpulsation as an intra-aortic balloon pump. A pump is placed in the descending aorta and inflated and deflated to help move blood through the body. The pump is placed through an incision in the shoulder region of the patient and delivered through the axillary artery.
